Wilbert "Bud" H Gravley

Wilbert “Bud” Gravley, 100 of New London, died Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at GlenOaks Care Center in New London.  Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2024 at Peace Lutheran Church in New London.  Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in New London.  Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.                         

Wilbert Harlan Gravley was born on August 26, 1923 on the family farm north of Kandiyohi, the son of Julius and Ida (Jacobson) Gravley.  He was baptized at Green Lake Lutheran Church and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in New London.  He grew up on a farm near New London and attended country grade school.  After school he began working for farmers in the area and working road construction before starting his own excavating business that he operated for 50 years.  On July 22, 1972, Bud was united in marriage to Maxine Rooney.  They made their home in New London and shared in 35 years of marriage before Maxine’s death on May 11, 2008. 

Bud was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.  He loved dancing, playing cards and fishing.  Bud enjoyed going often with his brother, Gordon to the Belgrade meat market and bakery for his breads and lutefisk. He also always put others first. He was constantly helping friends, family and neighbors with their mowing, shoveling, snow blowing and other things. If someone needed help, Bud was always there to assist.

He is survived by his step-children, Diane Rupp, Faye (Jim) Vogt and Gayland (Diane) Rooney; 8 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and brother, Gordon Gravley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; his special friend, Guida Quale; step-daughter, Laurel Iverson; infant step-daughter, Valorie; son-in-law, Dennis Rupp and siblings, Kenneth, Roger, Ilo, Adeline and Gloria.
