William “Bill” Smith Titus was born July 27, 1952, in Lisbon, North Dakota, to Wallace and Ethel (Johnson) Titus. He grew up in Enderlin and graduated from Enderlin High School in 1970.
In February 1971, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. Following his discharge in November 1973, he continued serving in the National Guard for several years.
After returning home, Bill worked as a welder at the Bobcat plant in Gwinner, before transferring to the Bismarck plant. On November 21, 1975, he married Sharon Fleck at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bismarck. They made their home in Bismarck and later moved to Lincoln, North Dakota. Sharon passed away in 2015.
In 2021, Bill moved to Bethesda North Pointe in New London, Minnesota, to be closer to his family. He later moved to Willmar, where he resided at Westview Village and, most recently, Bethesda StoneRidge.
Bill was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer and the Spicer American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gun shows, westerns, and smoking meats and making sausage. For more than 25 years, he served as a North Dakota Hunter Education instructor. When his children were young, he also enjoyed playing Santa for the Sterling Public School and family gatherings. Bill liked staying busy, fixing things, and visiting with people, but especially treasured time with his family and taking his grandchildren to the store for treats.
Bill is survived by his two sons, Wally (Amanda) Titus of Spicer and Brian Titus of Minot, North Dakota; three grandchildren, Evelyn, Madelyn, and Victor; and his siblings, Jay (Terry) Titus, Vickie Titus, and Judy Titus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sharon; his brother, Jan; and an infant son.
