He then attended St. Cloud Business College. He served in the United States Army from 1966-1968, first at Fort Dix, New Jersey then in Vietnam. Serving his country during the Vietnam conflict was a source of great pride for Bill. During this time, on April 4, 1967, he was united in marriage to Barb Felska at Fort Dix. Following his discharge, Bill and Barb moved to Willmar in 1969. He worked for 28 years as Safety Director and Operations Assistant for Willmar Municipal Utilities before retiring in 2005.
He was baptized and confirmed in Eden Valley and was a member of Church of St. Mary in Willmar where he has served on the church council and was a eucharistic minister. Bill also was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Bill was a devoted community member belonging to New London American Legion Post #537, VFW Post #1639, and the Willmar Elks Lodge #952. He dedicated 28 years as treasurer of the Minnesota State Elks Association and the Minnesota Elks Youth Camp. He also served as District Deputy to the Grand Exalted Ruler, Auditor to the District Deputy, and President of the Minnesota Elks Association in 2001-2002. One of his greatest honors was being chosen to serve at the national level as Grand Lodge Treasurer in 2010-2011.
Bill’s other great passion was his family. His devotion to his wife and children was second to none. His door was always open to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
